The £31 million Strathclyde University Sports Centre

The Brief

Strathclyde University was committed to providing first class training, fitness and well being facilities for students and the community alongside producing a space for industry leading research, technology and innovation.

Challenges

The art sports centre in the heart of the Strathclyde University Campus would be providing flexible and well-equipped teaching spaces.

Solutions

The site wide solution adopted for the critical sharing of information was Onelan, allowing scalable and flexible digital signage across the centre. The crisp and professional NEC range of display monitors we reinstalled to ensure the quality and reliability of the full digital signage system. Furthermore, the Onelan solution integrated seamlessly into the existing Onelan CMS system used by the University.

One of the major remits of the project was clear from the offset, the sports halls and studios were to be equipped with the highest standard of audio products providing immersive sound quality to the members and guests of the centre and flexible application to the variety of users working within the facility. Mediascapes smart design utilised Dante networked audio alongside amplifiers, community speakers and subwoofers to pack a heavy weight punch.

The design of the building and the state-of-the-art equipment it housed within it produced an imposing and impressive result, miles ahead of the competition so it was important that the Audio Visual element of the project produced the same result. It was an essential part of the brief to create a statement from the offset that technology was at the core of this centre, a modern space for modern trainers and enthusiasts.

The group cycle area within the centre featured a beautiful 4 screen video wall, boasting 4 55″ Samsung screens, with extreme narrow bezels and full HD resolution resulting in an impressive, crystal clear display, a centre piece for this stunning building.

We equipped the adaptable SSPE areas with a powerful Panasonic PTZ-RZ970 projector for presentation in an area with high levels of ambient light. This solution makes the area usable day or night as the 10,000 ansi lumens projector is capable of delivering high quality pictures regardless of the environment.

In the Boardroom we provided a flexible simple space with a 65″ NEC display and Barco Clickshare for Bring Your Own Device facility.

Throughout all of the areas we installed AMX control systems, simple user friendly touch screens programmed to allow users to control all Audio Visual services in the room from one location and providing central control and visibility over the network to the university.

Outcomes

The centre opened in September 2018 and has seen unprecedented numbers applying for membership. The detailed and technical delivery by Mediascape of the Audio Visual elements were hailed a major success by all.Campbell Jamieson, the Universities Learning Spaces Manager said: ‘the sound quality is very very good, the systems are easy to use and have been extremely well received by all’

The project was delivered on time and on budget and exceeded all expectation, a true runaway success.
