The Brief

The Technology & Innovation Centre (TIC) at the University of Strathclyde is a brand-new facility that aims to transform the way academics and businesses work in partnership with the industrial and public sectors.

The TIC is a unique space for professionals across all fields to come together to find solutions to challenges that matter in areas of economic importance.

This includes advanced manufacturing and materials, health and wellbeing, innovation and entrepreneurship, measurement science, and enabling technologies for ocean, air and space.

Challenges

After submitting a successful tender to win this exciting project, Mediascape worked with the University’s specially commissioned design team to create bespoke AV solutions across 9 floors of the almost completed building.

The critical challenge on this project was co-ordinating with the joinery contractor that was building architectural Corian surrounds for each video wall and touchscreen.

This required a two-staged approach to first fix bracketry and then subsequently return and carefully fit the monitors after the surrounds were in place. This was achieved successfully by frequent onsite meetings between the design team, architects and the joinery contractor.

Solutions

Following the successful tender submission, representatives from The University of Strathclyde and their design team met with Mediascape’s Glasgow Account Manager.

We began by discussing in-depth with the client exactly what they wanted from their new buildings setup. We then ran through a demonstration of the Onelan media player and discussed how this premium technology could be utilized to meet their content publishing requirements across the building.

Onelan’s new 4K technology products sat perfectly within this innovative building and each area was carefully designed to sit discretely into the architectural vision for a sleek and modern finish.

Featured Products

For their main reception video wall, Mediascape recommended a 15 screen video wall with 55″ NEC Screens with Chief wall mounts to hold the monitors discreetly on the wall within a beautifully designed Corian surround.

The Chief brackets were uniquely designed to ‘pop out’ from the wall in order to service individual monitors if required. Our design team then finalized the various other spaces within the building which included the following:

• 1 x 4 screen video wall
• 2 x 2 screen video walls
• 11 x touchscreens in various areas, including the unique ‘mast’ designed stands

Outcomes

After the installation, the University of Strathclyde has seen the TIC come to life through the stunning quality of the video wall and the other display solutions throughout the building.

Filling such a large reception space allows the video wall to effectively showcase new innovative ideas and developments through a spectacular visual medium. Not only is the University benefiting from an eye-catching feature within the building, but the applications for such an installation are almost limitless.

The University and private design consultant were so impressed by the knowledge and professionalism shown by Mediascape that they have since returned to Mediascape for further projects within the building, including the new City Observatory space and installation of a room booking solution within the building.
